Adam McKay initially wanted to start off his career as a performer himself rather than being outside of the screen. However, he ended up starting as a writer for the screen on Saturday Night Live. At the age of 27, he became the head writer of the scripts in Saturday Night Live. He soon started making small films and also performed in a number of films. He has appeared in films like God Hates cartoons, Step Brothers, The Other Guys.

 

Direction and Production

Adam McKay made his directorial debut in 2004 with the film, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy where he himself also performed and contributed as a writer. Following year, he produced and directed the films Step Brothers, alongside Alex Watson and Jean Reno The Other Guys, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, and so on.

He also wrote the story and produced the film, The Campaign in 2012 and Get Hard in 2015. He also contributed to writing the Marvel Comics-based superhero film, Ant-Man in 2015. He has also directed a number of episodes of television series like Saturday Night Live where he worked as head writer. He also directed an episode of a sketch comedy show, Human Giant, Funny or Die Presents, and another comedy tv series, Eastbound & Down, and an episode of Succession.

In 2018, he made his major breakthrough with the American biographical satirical comedy-drama film, Vice in which, he produced, directed, and wrote. In 2021, he again directed the film, Don’t Loop Up and next, he will be directing the film, Bad Blood alongside Luke Wilson and Jeffrey Wright which is scheduled to be released in the coming years.

He further received an Academy Awards nomination for Best Director the same film, the same year. In 2019, he received 3 more Academy Awards nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay after his work on the film, Vice.
