EARLY LIFE

Will Swenson was born on the day of October 26 of 1972 in Provo which is located in Utah, USA. Details about his parents are unknown. His grandparents are Ruth Hale and Nathan. His grandmother was a playwright and also an actress. He was raised a Christian. He frequently moved during his childhood and didn’t live in a place for long. After completing high school, he went to Brigham Young University. After graduating from University, he went to Guayaquil-Ecuador as a missionary. Slowly, he left his faith in LDS behind, and by 2008, he didn’t believe in it. He then started doing theatre. 

 

CAREER

Will made his theatrical debut in 2002 with “Miss Saigon” in which he played the role of Chris Scott and went on a  US National Tour. In 2004, he appeared in the theatrical performance for “Brooklyn” as a vocalist, a street singer and the character named Taylor Collins on Broadway. In 2005, he appeared in “Two Gentleman of Verona” at Off-Broadway. In 2006, he appeared as a part of the ensemble of “Lestat” and played the role of Armand and Lestat on Broadway.

The next year, in 2007, he performed in “Adrift in Macao” as Rick Shaw at Off-Broadway. The same year he appeared in “110 in the Shade” as Cody and Bill Starbuck at Broadway. In 2008, he appeared in “The Slug Bearers of Kayrol Island” as a Psychiatrist at Off-Broadway. In 2008, he appeared in “Hair” as Berger at Off-Broadway. The same year, Will Swenson played Stacee Jaxx in “Rock of Ages” at Off-Broadway. From 2009 to 2010, he portrayed Berger in “Hair” at Broadway. 

In 2014 and 2015, he appeared in “Les Misérables” as Javert on Broadway. In 2017 and 2018, he acted in “Waitress” as Earl at Broadway. In 2018, he appeared in “Jerry Springer – The Opera” as Satan at Off-Broadway.

He made his film debut in 1996 with the short film titled “Treasure Chest” in which he played the role of Thor. In 2002, he appeared in the LDS cinema film “The Singles Ward” as Jonathan Jordan. In 2003, he appeared in the film “The R.M.’ as Kori Swenson and in the LDS film “Sons of Provo” as the character named Will Jensen in 2004.

Also that year, he performed in the short film titled “Dear John” as Tyson. In 2007, he reprised his role as Jonathan Jordan in the film titled “The Singles 2nd Ward”. In 2010, he appeared as an actor on stage in the film titled “The Switch”. In 2013, he played the role of Ares in an unreleased film titled “Gods Behaving Badly”. In 2014, he performed in the movie *This Is Where I Leave You” as the Younger version of Mort Altman. In 2017, he played the role of Philo Barnum in the massive hit musical film with actor Paul Sparks titled “The Greatest Showman“.

Will Swenson is currently married to Audra McDonald. They got engaged in 2012 and got married in October of 2016. Together, they have a child named Sally. Previously, Swenson was married to Amy Westerby. They first met while working on “Hopsville Holiday”. They have two children together, namely, Sawyer and Bridger.
