How to write an essay?
Fourth grade elementary school students learn how to write an essay and continue to master this art throughout elementary and secondary education.
The essay is also one of the elements of the exam, both for the eighth-grade exam and for the baccalaureate. Help with paper is needed in any subject and age. That’s why teachers intensively practice essay writing with students in class and often assign them as homework.
Rules for writing essays
For many students, especially those who read little or no books, writing an essay can be a real challenge. Meanwhile, in order to write a good essay in elementary school, it is enough to know the basic rules that govern this form of expression.
- remember that an essay grade is also influenced by the appearance of the essay’s
- the aesthetics of writing (especially the absence of deletions) is also important for the teacher
- sentence structure
- absence of spelling and punctuation errors
- starting new thoughts with a paragraph
Topic of the essay
As with any written work, when writing an essay, you need to know what you want to write about, in other words, you need to know the topic well. For example, it is impossible to write a good essay on a topic related to the content of a school textbook if you have not read that book before.
Even if the topic is not directly related to the school textbook, but is free (e.g., “My Friend”), and you can let your imagination run wild, it still does not hurt to write down what and who you want to talk about in your essay.
A step-by-step essay
A good essay has a structure that makes it come together as a whole when you read it. It always begins with a title. The next steps in writing an essay are:
Introduction
The introduction doesn’t have to be long or pretty, so don’t spend hours thinking about what you are going to write. It is important that the essay’s introduction relates to the topic (so use words from the topic or write it again, only in your own words), and also represent the characters, place, and time of the event the essay is about.
Development
This is the main and therefore the longest part of the essay. It should contain only information relevant to the topic of the essay. It is important that it should be grouped into paragraphs, each containing at least three extended sentences, and that they should be coherent, i.e. one sentence should be a continuation of the previous one. The main body of the essay is also the place where you can include various descriptions about the topic (such as people or places) and your feelings, or even a short dialogue. You can also use question sentences, exclamation points, and sentence equivalents. However, don’t repeat the same words (especially misuse the words was, was, was).
Conclusion
This is a time to summarize the content and draw conclusions, which – depending on the topic of the essay – could be a moral or, for example, a punch line. In this part of the essay, as in the introduction, it is allowed and even required to use words from the topic, as well as phrases that emphasize the author’s way of thinking, such as my opinion, I think, I believe, I am sure.
How to organize essays in a remote school
That the two parties, teachers and students, need to be prepared for an online lesson is a given. We need to have the proper equipment to communicate with each other. And even if there are limitations on both sides, there is nothing difficult for those who wish to do so. The Internet provides great opportunities. So if we already have something and someone to work with, it’s worth considering what form the essay will take. Do we want to keep an eye on our students while they write, or do we give them freedom and trust.
How to improve a picture essay
We get pictures of the essay and then what? Somehow we have to make adjustments. If one has the ability and skill, he or she can add comments in a professional graphics program. There is no need to install additional software. You can use a tool you already have on your computer, such as Paint, a new version of Paint 3D, or a simple photo viewer to add your corrections.
How to check your work in a Word document
Open the resulting document. In the top panel, select the “Paste” option. Highlight the piece of text we want to refer to and click “comment”. The comment box is a text box, so we can easily write all the comments there, even the longest ones. When you hover your mouse over it, the text snippets being commented are highlighted in gray. To draw the student’s attention to where to look for corrections, we can additionally highlight the text or change the font color.
