Mekhi Phifer is an American actor who is known for his portrayal of the character, Dr. Gregory Pratt in the famous American medical drama tv series, ER. He further received more recognition after his starring role in the American drama film, 8 Mile alongside American rapper, Eminem.

Phifer was born on 29th December of 1974 in the most populous city of the United States, New York City in the neighborhood called Harlem. He was raised by his single mother, Rhoda Phifer who was a schoolteacher. He has never met his father.

Mekhi Phifer attended Auxiliary Services High School and was a good student. He then joined the State University of New York where he attended the electrical engineering program.

Phifer made his television debut with the tv film, Models Inc playing the small role as a model in 1995.
